Voted 'Nottingham's Best Club Night'
Every Saturday at Stealth & The Rescue Rooms

◆ MONKI (Radio 1 / Rinse FM / ZOO Music)

20-year-old South Londoner Lucy Monkman (from which her moniker is derived), has spent the past two years fast gaining reputation as one of the UK's most exciting young DJs, renowned for her approach to selection that follows one rule: if it's good, it'll get played, regardless of style or tempo. Monki's shows are typically built around a backbone of garage and house, but often accelerate in tempo towards the end, making connections outward to genres like grime and dubstep; expect to hear everything from KiNK and Inner City through to Melé and early DMZ material. This defiance of categorization caught the ear of the initimable Annie Mac early on, who has regularly invited Monki to play sets on her touring 'AMP' night throughout Europe, as well as Katy B, who picked up Monki to support her across an extensive UK tour.

Acting as a perfect accompaniment to the box-fresh, bass-propelled sets is Monki's enthusiasm and natural charisma, which has accelerated her through the ranks of radio, which remains her true passion. Having originated as a "Nandos, coffee and tea" runner in the Rinse FM studios, a smattering of successful guest spots and stand-ins landed her a permanent slot on the station, which shifted quickly to the coveted 4-6pm Saturday slot. She retains a Saturday show to this day, but 2013 saw an added string to Monki's bow: her addition to BBC Radio 1's prestiguous 'In New DJs We Trust' roster. In addition to this, she fronts the label ZOO Music, whose first release 'Needs To Be Said' came from recent SvR guests Toyc & Zulu. Expect Monki to go from strength to strength as the year progresses; don't miss your chance to catch her before she absolutely blows up!
